Contributing to the 10 Million Meals Campaign
During the COVID-19 pandemic, with schools closed and global uncertainty at its peak, I found myself
grounded in Dubai, observing firsthand the disproportionate impact the crisis had on vulnerable
communities. Inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s 10 Million Meals
campaign - launched during the Holy Month of Ramadan to support those most affected - I felt
compelled to act.
Together with my sister, I organised and completed a 25 km triathlon to raise funds for the
campaign, adapting to lockdown restrictions by swimming in our backyard pool and cycling and running
around our neighbourhood. Hosted via the online fundraising platform YallaGive, our initiative
quickly gained momentum. By the end of the challenge, we had raised US $10,000, surpassing our initial
fundraising goal by approximately 40%.
The experience reaffirmed my belief in taking initiative during times of crisis and using whatever
means are available - even modest ones - to contribute meaningfully to the communities that support
us.
